Khole Kardashian and Lamar Odom In the Hot Seat over their Charity. Where’s the Money Really Going?
Lamar Odom and Khole Kardashian are both heavily involved in charities because they’re celebrities and it’s the only way to improve their image. However, it might be working against them right about now. Lamar Odom’s charity, ‘Cathy’s Kids’ is a charity he started back in 2004 after his mom passed away from cancer. According to the charity, it promises to raise money for cancer research. However, it’s now being reported that Cathy’s Kids has not given any grant money to any cancer entity since it first started back in 2004.
Khole and Lamar’s shared eBay page states that,
“[Cathy’s Kids] was developed as a means for Lamar to streamline all his charitable efforts and focus on making an impact on the lives of under-privileged children, as well as targeting a disease that has played a significant role in his life, cancer. Lamar lost his mother to stomach cancer and subsequently is committed to help causes that are focused on finding a cure and helping people who suffer from the disease.”
While the charity has helped the youth that live in the inner cities of New York and Los Angeles, it has failed to do the same for cancer research. The charity has raised around $2.2 million since it first started and $1.3 million went to help finance two elite youth basketball teams. So, it appears that the charity may be a bit one sided when it comes to spreading the money around. In fact, their charity has a second eBay page and on that page, there is no mention of raising money for cancer research. It only promises to raise money to buy, “education tools such as books and computer, mentoring and tutoring services and recreational opportunities.”
Khole and Lamar have not made an official statement on the findings, but several media outlets have requested a response.
It’s hard to really say anything about this, yet. Obviously, it’s great that Lamar wants to raise money for cancer research, but where is the money going? I’m not suggesting that Odom is doing it intentionally, considering his mom passed away from the terrible disease. However, it’s possible that he just wasn’t aware of the issue. Perhaps, he isn’t given the charity his full attention, I mean he is a pretty busy guy. His basketball career, reality shows and his crazy wife’s family. It’s probably hard for him to focus on every single thing he is involved in, but it might be time for him to start.
He either needs to remove any mention of cancer research funding from the charity’s website, or he needs to actually start donating to the cause. We’ll see what happens…
