Kanye West is being Sued
Someone is going after the great Kanye West. What would possess a person to do such an incredibly stupid thing? Well, apparently Trena Steward and Lorenzo Pryor feel that Kanye West used their dad’s voice without permission! Trena and Lorenzo’s dad recorded some song titled, “Bumpin’ Bus Stop” with his group “Thunder & Lightning” back in 1974 and I guess at some point in that song, their father sings, “Get down” and they claim that Kanye used their dad’s voice on his extremely popular song, “Gold Digger.” Kanye released that song all the way back in 2005, so why is the lawsuit just now being filed? Who knows. Perhaps, Trena and Lorenzo have fallen on some hard times.
Lorenzo and Trena apparently mean business, though. They are demanding that the judge stop all sales of the song until this whole mess gets sorted out; they’re also asking that they be provided with “millions of dollars” for the unlicensed sample of their father’s voice.
Of course, no one expects them to win the lawsuit. However, it does make you wonder just how desperate these people really are. I mean, what are the chances of anyone even listening to, “Bumpin Bus Stop”? And then what are the odds they hear some dude say, “Get down” and think, “We just have to steal this and put it in a Kanye West song!” They do realize how incredibly silly that sounds, right?
Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time Kanye has been sued for copyright infringement of lyrics. In 2010, he was sued by a musician named Vincent Peters over a copyright dispute for the song, “Stronger.” The judge in that case ruled in West’s favor, and we have a feeling this new lawsuit will go in West’s favor again.
People need to stop messing with Kanye West! He’ll strike your ass with lightning; he has that kind of power!
