Andre 3000’s Mom Dies Day After His Birthday
Terribly sad news to report to you all today. Andre 3000’s mom passed away Tuesday just one day after the multi-talented performer celebrated his 38th birthday. His mom, Sharon Benjamin-Hodo died in her sleep early Tuesday morning in her home in Georgia. The local police department looked into the sudden death and concluded that Sharon died of natural causes. Her death was certainly unexpected, especially when you consider she was only 58-years-old.
Andre is believed to be taking the news pretty hard, especially with the horrible timing of it all. However, multiple celebrities are offering their condolences in hopes that their words will provide him with some comfort during this tough time. Russell Simmons tweeted out a message that read, “Prayers for Andre 3000” and Jermaine Dupri wrote a short blog post on Global 14. He wrote,
“Mrs. Sharon Benjamin , affectionately known as “Ma Benjamin , Ms. B, and Nana” died at the age of 58 and was a key player in the lives of OutKast during their formative teenage years as they grew into adulthood and served as one of the managers for “her boys” earlier in their career.”
It seems like “Ms. B” was loved by a lot of people, and it’s not hard to understand why. You can tell just how great of person she really was just by listening to an interview she did on ‘Talk! With Audrey.’ She said,
“I’m an average mother. Happy days, sad days. Some days are stressful and some days are peaceful. Being a mother is a normal thing…I keep asking God to keep me focused because it’s not the star that is really enhancing who I am, it’s what he carries — his spirit, his mind and that is what I’m so grateful for.”
She also offered up some helpful advice to the moms of the world,
“It’s got to be about the love. And love doesn’t have any conditions. Because if you have been raised and everybody’s morals are different, and their values are different — whatever they are or (whoever) has made it for you, pass it on and stick to those morals.”
Andre 3000’s mom was the founder of The Starlight Camp, which is a program that helps underprivileged children. It’s in connection with the New Morning Light Missionary Baptist Church. Her husband, Robert Hodo is the pastor for the church located in Conley, Ga.
Our thoughts certainly go out to Andre 3000 and his family. What a terrible thing to go through.
