Phillip Seymour Hoffman Drug Abuse

Phillip Seymour Hoffman has had a rough past with drugs. In 2006, he told 60 Minutes that after he graduated from New York University, he found himself hanging out in the wrong places,

“It was all that (drugs and alcohol), yeah, it was anything I could get my hands on, I liked it all. I went to (rehab), I got sober when I was 22 years old. You get panicked…and I got panicked for my life. It really was just that.”

Well, sadly it looks like after 20+ years of sobriety, the extremely talented actor had a breakdown recently. TMZ is reporting that the 45-year-old just finished a 10-day stay in a detox facility somewhere on the east coast. His problems started with a prescription drug problem about a year ago, but it apparently led to heroin use. It’s being reported that he only used heroin for a week before he went out to get help for his addiction.

Hoffman says it was his “great group of friends and family” who pushed him to get the help he so badly needed. He is believed to be completely clean at the moment, the actor is even hard at work on another movie that is being filmed in Europe.

I hope he stays clean! It seems like it’s always the ones with talent who f–k everything up with drugs. That’s probably why I’ve been clean my entire life, I don’t have a single talented bone in my body.
