Cory Monteith’s Character On Glee Will Not Die From Overdose
Even though we had learned that Glee would “deal directly” with the addiction issues that ended up taking Cory’s life, it now appears that his character on the show will NOT die from an overdose.
In fact, we might not even know what his character dies from. Glee creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed in an interview that the memorial/celebration episode for Cory’s character might surprise some people,
“There were a lot of things we had to decide … how are we going to deal with his death? Basically, what we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died.
The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we will say very early on, ‘This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.’ That might be weird for some people, but it felt exploitative to do it any other way.”
The episode in question will be the third episode in the upcoming season, which premieres on September 26.
To be honest, that’s kind of disappointing news. I certainly get where he is coming from, but I also feel like they had the chance to really do some good. To teach kids about addiction and maybe help someone that is struggling with addiction. Perhaps, they are planning on still doing that, but just in a different way? Who knows, but I hope they do address the issue.
We’ll all be watching when the episode comes out. It should be very emotional.
