‘Pretty Little Liars’ Star Shares Great Message About Loving Yourself On Instagram

It’s rare to see a celebrity speak out against getting showered with compliments, and it’s even rarer to see someone actually posting something useful on Instagram.

Typically, Instagram is just one big circlejerk. People spend all day taking hundreds of selfies, and then only post the one or two photos where they believe they look the best. And then all their friends comment, “U R SO HAWT!” and then they reply, “SHUT UP! U ARE WAY HAWTER!”

But 28-year-old actress and star of Pretty Little Liars Troian Bellisario is tired of all the superficial compliments. She wrote the following message on Instagram.

“So. Getting compliments is wonderful and everyone should feel beautiful in their own skin. But I get my hair and make up done professionally. For a job. That’s not beauty. That’s make up it’s a curling iron and hairspray. What’s beautiful is inside you. It’s your creativity. It’s your intelligence. Your empathy and your kindness to your fellow man.

I could care less about being “pretty” or “perfect” and we should all ask ourselves why in our society that is the “highest” and most common compliment we are paying to our female friends. I’m so grateful for your support. And so thrilled to read your words. I love that you love Pll and are kind and supportive to each other. But let’s put this to bed… Foundation and a blow dryer do not a woman make. Rock on everyone.”

Honestly, I have no idea who this woman is. I’d be an ugly little liar if I said I was a big fan of her show. I’ve never watched it. But that’s okay because I don’t think their target audience is 23-year-old males who still eat cereal for dinner.

But I do agree with her message. You always hear (especially on the internet) comments about how beautiful someone is. How hot they are. I mean, just look back at some of my posts. They are full of, “OH HELL, YEAH! GIVE ME ‘DAT A** GURL!” I am guilty of it.

However, I am going put an end to it. No mas! There will be no more bikini pictures on this site.
