Matthew Morrison Fired From ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Over Inappropriate Flirting With Contestant

COVID-19 nearly broke the once popular dance competition show ‘So You Think You Can Dance‘ on Fox. The reality show was renewed for a seventeenth season back in February of 2020, but then COVID happened and the network put the show on ice.

And the following year, in February of 2021, they announced they would not be moving forward with the show, which led many people to believe it was over.

But then in February 2022, the network surprised everyone by announcing season seventeen was headed into production. The first episode premiered on May 18, 2022, and unfortunately there’s already controversy.

Former ‘Glee‘ actor Matthew Morrison was hired to be a judge on the show, but it was reported this week that he was fired. Sources say he was cut from the show after he had an inappropriate relationship with a female contestant.

They didn’t have sex, but he reached out to her through flirty direct messages on social media. She felt uncomfortable with his line of comments and went to producers, who then got Fox involved. He was fired after they did their own investigation.

Damn. The source added that Morrison and the contestant never met up outside the show, but it’s clear if the contestant was down, Morrison would have been all for it. It’s worth noting that Morrison is still married to a woman named Renee Puente. They’ve been married since 2014, and based on her recent Instagram comments, she’s standing by her husband.

We are not privy to any of the theories and what’s being said out there. Honestly could care less about the gossip. It’s all made up. We know our truth and that’s all the matters.

Morrison sent out a vague statement on his departure…

After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly. I cannot apologize enough to all involved and I will be watching alongside you all on what I know will be one of the best seasons yet.

He will still appear in the already filmed episodes, which should run through the middle of June, but he will then be replaced. No word on who will replace him.
