Jay Leno Reveals His “Brand New Face” After Suffering Major Burns In Freak Accident
Back in November, Jay Leno nearly died in a freak accident while working on a 1907 Steam Car in his garage. The fuel line was clogged, so he was underneath it, trying to get everything flowing.
He told his buddy to “blow some air through the line,” and when he did, gas sprayed all over Leno’s face. Then the pilot light jumped and his face caught on fire.
I said to my friend, I said, ‘Dave, I’m on fire,’ And Dave’s like, ‘All right.’ I said, ‘No, Dave, I’m on fire.’ And then, ‘Oh, my god.’ Dave, my friend, pulled me out and jumped on top of me and kind of smothered the fire.
Leno was in shock. He somehow drove himself home, and then was quickly transported to the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles. He spent 10 days inside the hospital, where he received multiple surgeries to repair his face and his arms/hands.
And it looks like the folks at the Grossman Burn Center know what they’re doing because Leno’s face looks as good as new. He made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week, and honestly, you can’t really tell his face was badly burned just a few months ago.
“This is a brand new face. It’s unbelievable,” he told Clarkson. He then joked about how he’s the “new face” of comedy again.
Only for the second time in my career am I the new face of comedy. I got it once in the ’80s and now I get it again.
What’s crazy is that a couple months after the fire, he got into an accident on his motorcycle and broke a few bones. Safe to say, he may want to take it easy for the rest of 2023.
