‘Home Improvement’ Star Zachery Ty Bryan Claims His Domestic Violence Arrest Was Blown Out Of Proportion
Remember Zachery Ty Bryan from Home Improvement? He played the oldest son, Brad, on the hit series. He hasn’t done much since the show ended, but three years ago he made headlines for his domestic violence arrest.
His mugshot was spread all over the internet and some people were like, “Yeah, I saw this coming,” which was a strange thing to say, because like… how? He hasn’t been anywhere! Were they just forming that opinion around his character on Home Improvement? He was often brooding on the show, but then again, he was playing a teenager.
Anyway, Bryan is now speaking out some three years after the arrest. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the now 41-year-old actor claimed the whole thing was blown out of proportion.
We got really loud. We were screaming and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear. At the end of the day, [the police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something. I could’ve fought it … but that’s more stress and drama.
He agreed to take a deal and plead guilty to menacing and fourth-degree assault, both misdemeanors. He was originally charged with six other counts, including strangulation, but they were dropped when he accepted the deal.
I thank God for that. I went through a situation that I’m sure plenty of people across the globe experience with their partners.
It’s worth noting that he and his partner ended up staying together. They actually got engaged and had twins together last year, so apparently they worked things out… or she’s just too afraid to leave.
I mean, sure, sometimes people get arrested in domestic incidents and maybe just a push or some yelling happened, but I’m not so sure that was the case here. Why was strangulation included in the original list of charges? That’s a scary one. Dudes who will choke you during an argument will have no problem killing you in the future.
Hard to know without the facts of the case… but if I were the family of his wife, I’d be very protective.
