Disney’s ‘Mulan’ Star Coco Lee Is Dead After Committing Suicide At The Age Of 48
Some terribly sad news to report. 48-year-old actor/singer Coco Lee has passed away at the age of 48.
Coco, who is perhaps most famous for voicing Mulan in the Mandarin version of Disney’s Mulan, reportedly attempted suicide at her home on Sunday.
She was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately doctors were not able to save her. She slipped into a coma and died on Wednesday.
Coco suffered from depression for years, her family says, and she sought professional help … but her condition drastically deteriorated over the last few months and she ultimately took her own life.
In addition to her work in Mulan, she also performed an Oscar-nominated song ‘A Love Before Time‘ in the movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Coco was born in Hong Kong but attended middle school and high school in San Francisco, where she was crowned 1991’s Miss Teen Chinatown. She was the first Chinese singer to go big in America, with her song ‘Do You Want My Love’ reaching No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Breakout chart way back in 1999.
Her family and friends released a statement on her death, thanking the medical staff for providing her the best possible care.
Finally, we would like to thank the medical staff again for their dedication to care throughout the whole process. At the same time, we hope that everyone will not only miss CoCo, but also share her bright smile, treat people with sincerity, and convey kindness and love to everyone around us, and continue CoCo’s wish to let everyone around feel her love and happiness.
Our thoughts go out to everyone who knew her.
