Emily Blunt Announces She’s Taking An Extended Break From Acting To Focus On Family
In the past three years, Emily Blunt has starred in five movies, and she has two more that are still in post-production, with a likely release in 2024, which means she’ll have starred in seven movies in four years.
That’s a lot of work, considering most Hollywood movies film for around two months, not factoring in rehearsing and the promotional tours following the release.
Safe to say, Blunt has been operating at a high level for years, and she needs a lengthy break. During an appearance on the ‘Table for Two‘ podcast, the 40-year-old actress revealed she’s going to be stepping away from Hollywood for at least a year.
This year, I’m not working. I worked quite a bit last year and my oldest baby is 9, so we’re in the last year of single digits. And I just feel [like] there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little. And it’s, ‘Will you wake me up? Will you take me to school? Will you pick me up? Will you put me to bed?’ And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones.
That’s a pretty solid reason to take a break. You never get those moments back, and kids remember that stuff.
Blunt said there is a great “emotional cost” to her and the kids when she’s away on projects, and because of that, she’s been feeling a bit of working mom guilt.
I think maybe all mothers are. You’re just prone to feeling bad for, God forbid, wanting something outside of being a mother. I am huge advocate for it — I’m a huge advocate for women being ambitious. It’s just dreams with purpose, it’s not an ugly word.
So there you have it. Don’t call Blunt with any pitches this year! She’s taking care of business at home!
