Country Music Superstar Jason Aldean Releases The Most Racist Music Video In History: “Try That In a Small Town”
Country singer Jason Aldean has released a music video so blatantly racist that even CMT has decided to remove it from their network.
The music video for his song ‘Try That In a Small Town‘ is essentially a piece of fearmongering filmed in front of a Tennessee courthouse where an 18-year-old Black man was lynched 100 years ago.
Written by Kelly Lovelace, Neil Thrasher, Tully Kennedy and Kurt Michael Allison, the song is an often confrontational take, with lyrics challenging those who ‘carjack an old lady at a red light’ or ‘pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store’ or ‘cuss out a cop’ to try that in a small town and ‘see how far ya make it down the road/ around here, we take care of our own.’
The video is scattered with clips of violence happening in larger cities, and the majority of the people they show committing crimes are black.
In the song, Aldean also talks about how small towns are “full of good ol’ boys, raised up right,” which is just simply not true. In addition to all that, he talks about how his grandad gave him a gun, and ain’t no one gonna take it from him.
It’s a sadly hilarious lyric given the fact that Aldean was on stage when the worst gun massacre in U.S. history took place at the Route 91 festival in Las Vegas.
Anyway, CMT removed the music video from its rotation, which has actually helped the song receive more attention. It’s currently climbing the charts, and all those small town folks are flooding the video’s YouTube page with supportive comments.
And while Aldean has a lot of supporters, he also has a lot of critics, including Sheryl Crow. She went on her Twitter page this week to send Aldean a message.
.@Jason_Aldean I’m from a small town. Even people in small towns are sick of violence. There’s nothing small-town or American about promoting violence. You should know that better than anyone having survived a mass shooting.
This is not American or small town-like. It’s just lame https://t.co/cuOtUO9xjr

At the end of the day, Aldean doesn’t give a f**k about anything except money in his pocket. He knew this song would get attention. This is exactly what he wanted.
