Matthew Perry’s Stepdad, Keith Morrison, Breaks Silence On The Beloved Actor’s Death
It’s an easy thing to forget if you’re not up-to-date with pop culture, but Keith Morrison is actually Matthew Perry’s stepdad. That’s right, the dude with the most soothing/creepy voice in history married Perry’s mom, Suzanne, way back in 1981.
The “Dateline” correspondent had remained silent on his stepson’s death for a few weeks now, but on Tuesday (Nov 28) he went on his Twitter account to raise awareness for the Matthew Perry Foundation.
“This is not the sort of thing I commonly do, this pitch. But this year is different. Do what you can; he would have been grateful,” he wrote, while sharing a link to the foundation’s website, which aims to help those struggling with addiction.
Perry’s extended family also released a statement to the media, promoting the organization…
It is important to us as a family to honor Matthew’s legacy. The potential that the Matthew Perry Foundation has to help those suffering with this disease is something we are proud to bring to the world.
As most of you know, the ‘Friends‘ actor struggled with addiction throughout much of his adult life. He nearly died several times due to excess drinking and drug use.
Perry wrote in his 2022 memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,’ that he had spent about $9 million trying to get sober and once nearly died from consuming 55 Vicodin tablets and a quart of vodka.
He had recently gotten sober in the year or two before his tragic death. It’s still not clear how he died.
Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
