‘Suite Life of Zack & Cody’ Star Claims Dylan Sprouse Was Body Shamed On Set As A Kid
54-year-old actress Kim Rhodes, best known for playing Carey Martin on The Suit Life of Zack & Cody, was on fellow Disney Channel alum Christy Romano’s podcast earlier this week.
And during their conversation, Kim talked about how she remembers a lot of fat shaming on the set of the show. For those who don’t remember, she played the mom of the characters played by Dylan and Cole Sprouse. And even though Cole and Dylan were twins, they had different body types.
Dylan had a little more meat on his bones than Cole, and according to Martin, this was a problem for some of the execs.
Dylan and Cole had different body types. And in front of everyone, Dylan was body-shamed. An exec screamed at craft services that there should be no more junk food until Dylan looked like Cole.
This set Kim off at the time and she remembers giving the exec a large piece of her mind. She told the dude to never speak like that again, and added they had no business writing for children if “that was their attitude.”
And perhaps she was more defensive of Dylan because he had previously stepped up for her when the writers wanted his character to make fun of her weight. This was during the time she was pregnant in real life.
He just kept skipping over it. It was, like, in the middle of a chunk of dialogue, so he kept skipping this laugh line. Finally, we get in front of the studio audience, and he skips it, and the executive producer screams, ‘Cut! Dylan, say the line!’ And he goes, ‘I would not disrespect any woman that way, let alone this woman. You write something funny, and I’ll say it.’
Daaang. Props to Dylan.
