Wendy Williams Has Been Diagnosed With Dementia And Aphasia, According To Her Medical Team
The saga that is Wendy Williams’ life continues. Years ago, she was at the top of her game, hosting one of the most-watched daytime talk shows.
But the past couple years has been incredibly tough on her. She developed a number of health issues and battled an addiction to alcohol and pills, resulting in her losing her talk show. She then nearly lost all her money. In fact, last we heard, she’s still in a battle with her bank to gain access to some of her funds.
Now you can add a dementia diagnosis on top of it all. That’s right, her medical team released a statement, claiming the 59-year-old star has frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia.
The conditions have already presented significant hurdles in Wendy’s life, but Wendy is still able to do many things for herself. Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed. She is appreciative of the many kind thoughts and good wishes being sent her way. The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
This may explain some of her behavior these past few years. She would often lose her train of thought during the final season or two of her show.
She’s currently under court-ordered guardianship. In just a few days, a Lifetime documentary about and produced by Wendy is set to be released.
It should be very interesting.
