Kanye Is Being Sued By Former Employee Who Claims He Was Fired Because He Wouldn’t Cut His Dreads
Kanye West might be headed back to court after being hit with another lawsuit. A man by the name of Benjamin Deshon Provo is suing the rapper after he claims he was fired unfairly.
Provo says he was hired to work as a security guard in West’s Donda Academy back in 2021, and according to him, the entire experience was filled with misery. He says he suffered “severe emotional distress” as a result of West’s actions.
The lawsuit alleges West was racist against his own people…
Kanye and members of his management team subjected Provo and other black employees to less favorable treatment than their white counterparts. Specifically, Kanye frequently screamed at and berated black employees, while in contrast, he never so much as raised his tone of voice toward white staff.
Provo claims West berated him for wearing his hair in dreads, even though he says the hairstyle is due in part to his Muslim faith.
Kanye and members of his management team required Provo to choose between these critical aspects of his self-identity and financial stability. Indeed, at the direction of Kanye, Provo was given the ultimatum, cut his hair, or be fired.
After refusing to cut his hair, West fired him. What’s interesting is that Provo also alleged West’s racism went far back in history, banning books about historical black figures from the academy.
This is consistent with what a teacher from the school said in her 2023 lawsuit against the rapper. She said West banned black history books. Her lawsuit trial date has been scheduled for April 2025.
No word on when this latest lawsuit will see its time in court.
