Reality Show Starring Reeva Steenkamp Will Still Air Despite Her Valentine’s Day Murder by Boyfriend Oscar Pistorius
Before Reeva Steenkamp was killed on Valentine’s Day, she shot a reality show. After much discussion, producers of the show will move forward and air the show this weekend. They say it will be a tribute to the slain model.
The show which is entering its 5th season is called Tropika Island of Treasure. Steenkamp was a contestant. The premise of the show pairs celebrities with ordinary Joes, sends them to remote locations and has them compete for prizes.
The shows creator told US Magazine that keeping Steenkamp’s footage from being aired would be an injustice. She explains,
“As we grieve today with Reeva’s family and friends and struggle to make sense of this shocking tragedy, it has taken much deliberation to come to the decision to continue screening Tropika Island of Treasure 5 as planned.
“Reeva was an intelligent, beautiful and amazing woman, and we feel it would be an injustice to keep that unknown from those who did not know her personally.
“Every episode that she is in, every frame that she so ably dominates, shines with her light and her laughter echoes in every conversation, and we want to share these special memories with the rest of South Africa.”
In a preview of the show, Steenkamp can be seen laughing, smiling and swimming with dolphins in Jamaica.
Oscar Pistorius has been charged with murder. Prosecutors say they will go after upgraded charges of premeditated murder based on the details of the case. If Pistorius is convicted he can face life in jail.
