The Fighter 2 confirmed – Ward and Gatti to Fight again on the Big Screen!

Did you see the movie “The Fighter”.  Well just like any other Hollywood movie that has a decent box office take, there will be a sequel. (Yaaawwwnnnn!) No, don’t yawn yet!  As long as it’s good, who really cares right? . 

The news of “The Fighter 2” came from a sneak peek of a clip from the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards.  It airs this Friday but someone leaked a clip where Walberg sheds’ some light on  a few things,

“We left out the Aturo Gatti fights for a reason,Because that’s for ‘Fighter 2.’ We’re not going to do ‘Fighter’ 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, but we’re gonna do 2. We’re gonna do the Ward/Gatti trilogy.”

Ok, now that is something to cheer about.  Those battles between Arturo Gatti and Mickey Ward are legendary.  I realize that this isn’t a site for fight fans, and possibly just Wahlberg lovers, but it will make for a great sequel.  Trust me.  Actually if you know anything about boxing, you probably walked out of the theater saying, “Where the hell was Arturo Gatti”.  Now we know!!

 Walhberg says,

 “We’re gonna do the Ward/Gatti trilogy and make it real.”

The Ward – Gotti Trilogy started 2 years after the fight (with Shea Neary) that you see in the movie.  Each fight was more brutal then the previous, sending both fighters to the hospital on multiple occasions. 

It took Mark Wahlberg years to make the Fighter 1, but I think the sequel will come together much easier.  It helps when the first movie takes 90 million, gets 2 Oscars and 5 nominations.  Plus we get to see the underatted Christian Bale do his thing! 

If you ask me Gatti’s life might be better hen Ward’s, or should I say his death.  He died in 2009. 

Foul play is suspected and Gatti’s wife, Amanda Rodrigues, is one of the main suspects. Authorities in Brazil are somewhat confused by Amanda’s changing story as well as the recovery of a bloody purse strap which one investigator believes was used to strangle the unconscious fighter. Former boxing champion Acelino Freitas, who was a close friend of Gatti, claims Gatti and his wife were having problems and were about to split up.

Just how good could the fight between Ward and Gatti be?  Is it really enough to make a sequel from?  Thanks to the magic of Youtube, I will let you be the judge.  Here are some highlight clips of the bouts.
