Travis Kelce Finally Reacts To Teammate Harrison Butker’s Controversial Speech Quoting Taylor Swift
It’s been around two weeks since Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker gave a controversial commencement speech. If you missed it, he basically said women belong in the home. He also essentially called gay people evil in so many words.
In the speech, he quoted a lyric from a Taylor Swift song, referring to her as his “teammate’s girlfriend.” It was super weird for him to do this, and you have to imagine he only did it to get attention.
After giving the speech, the city of Kansas City sent out a tweet, reminding everyone that Butker doesn’t even live in Kansas City, basically saying, “Hey, he’s not one of us!”
And now, we’re finally hearing Travis Kelce’s thoughts on the matter. During the latest episode of his ‘New Heights‘ podcast with his brother, Jason, they briefly touched on the subject.
Travis acknowledged Butker is a “great person” who is entitled to his own views, but made it clear he didn’t agree with just about any of the speech. He also praised both his mom and dad for being homemakers and providers.
They were unbelievable at being present every single day of my life. That was a beautiful upbringing for me. … I’m not the same person without both of them being who they were in my life. I’m just gonna go back to my beliefs and my family. My views are never gonna be the same as the man next to me. You put your differences inside for one goal in common, and that’s the beauty of team sports.
Sadly, he did not say anything about Butker name dropping T-Swift. I feel like that’s the thing I’d want to talk to Butker about if I were Travis.
Go all Will Smith on him…
