Emma Roberts Says “Nepo Baby” Unfairly Targets Women, Questions Why No One Calls Out George Clooney!
The term “Nepo Baby” has been gaining popularity in Hollywood. It refers to celebrities who have famous parents, aunts, uncles, etc. It’s basically an insult and a way to imply they’re only successful because they were helped along the way.
Emma Roberts has been called a nepo baby a lot. For those who don’t know, she’s the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and the niece of Julia Roberts.
And during a recent chit-chat on the ‘Table for Two‘ podcast, Roberts made the point that the insult is mostly directed toward young female celebrities.
I always joke, ‘Why is no one calling out George Clooney for being a nepo baby? [His aunt] Rosemary Clooney was an icon. I feel like young girls get it harder with the nepo baby thing. Like, I don’t really see people calling out sons of famous actors.
It’s true. George Clooney does come from a very famous family. In his family tree, there are over 20 celebrities, with him and Rosemary being the most famous.
But regardless of gender, Roberts doesn’t think anyone should be labeled as a nepo baby.
Everyone loves an overnight success story. And so if you’re kind of not the girl from the middle of nowhere that broke into Hollywood, there’s kind of an eye roll of like, ‘Well, your dad was this.’ People only see your wins, because they only see when you’re on the poster of a movie — they don’t see all the rejection along the way.
Sure, but at the end of the day, they do have an advantage. There’s no denying it. That being said, there’s advantages outside of Hollywood. Lots of people are in the position they’re in because of some advantage, so it’s probably a little unfair to single out celebrities.
