Brett Ratner has Resigned as Producer of Next Year’s Academy Awards.

The reason….he used a gay slur during a movie screening of Tower Heist, his latest film.  Ok, to be honest that was just the icing on the cake.  During this promotional circuit, Ratner, the man behind the Rush Hour Franchise put his foot in his mouth several times.

The worse had to be his recent visit to Howard Stern.

SO WHAT DID BRETT RATNER SAY?

OLIVIA MUNN COMMENTS

“I said I banged her three times, which wasn’t true… The problem is I made her look like whore.”

“She was hanging out on my set of ‘After the Sunset,’ I banged her a few times…but I forgot her.”

When she came and auditioned for me for a TV show, I forgot her, she got pissed off and she made up all these stories about me eating shrimp and masturbating in my trailer. And my shortcomings. She talked about my shortcomings. I get it. She’s bitter.”

“I used to date Olivia Munn.. when she was Lisa. That was the problem. She wasn’t Asian back then.”

THE “GAY” COMMENT

In regards to rehearsal during a screening Ratner stated,

“Rehearsal? What’s that? Rehearsal’s for fags. Rehearsal. Not much.”

Hmmmm…..wow.

That’s a sign of a man that was way too comfortable.  From the context he didn’t mean to offend the Gay community, but we have come a long way from over using the word Gay.  Apparently Ratner hadn’t.  Similar to Steve Williams’ comments about Tiger’s “Black” a** , these are words these guys use when they are having beers with their pals or at home.

After issuing an apology Ratner decided to step down from producing the Academy Awards. Academy President Tom Sherak says Ratner ‘did the right thing for the academy and for himself’.

‘Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable.’

The resignation appears to be Ratner’s decision.  Although Sherak said Ratner’s remarks were were ‘inappropriate’ – there were no plans to remove him from his Oscar-producing position.

He starts his apology letter with stating that the comment was,

‘a dumb and outdated way of expressing myself.’

Yep! Maybe he can produce in 2010.
