After a Dumb Ass tweet Ashton Kutcher Quits Twitter, Well…kind of

I have always considered Ashton as an extremely tech savvy, astute business man. But after tweeting out support for Penn State coach Paterno it showed just how out of touch with reality the actor really is.

WHAT DID ASHTON’S TWEET SAY?

How do you fire Jo P? #insult #noclass as a hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste,”

Really? Apparently he was completely unaware of the child abuse scandal. He thought that Paterno was fired for sport related issues. As he described it, he arrived home, saw the ESPN update that Joe was fired, and then tweeted. After finding out more details, he went to twitter to retract his statement to find out that he had been blasted by his fans. He removed the tweet but it wasn’t enough.

HIS SOLUTION – USE HIS MANAGEMENT AGENCY TO MANAGE HIS TWEETS

After a few follow up tweets apologizing and offering support, he tweeted out a link to his blog where he recounted the previous days events, ending with the following statement.

A collection of over 8 million followers is not to be taken for granted. I feel responsible to deliver informed opinions and not spread gossip or rumors through my twitter feed. While I feel that running this feed myself gives me a closer relationship to my friends and fans I’ve come to realize that it has grown into more than a fun tool to communicate with people. While I will continue to express myself through @Aplusk, I’m going to turn the management of the feed over to my team at Katalyst as a secondary editorial measure, to ensure the quality of its content. My sincere apologies to anyone who I offended. It was a mistake that will not happen again.

In my eyes, this just puts Ashton in the same category as Miley Cyrus. Back in the day Miley used to handle her own tweets, and instead of consciously making an effort to be more responsible, they decide to just shuck all liability and hire someone to make sure they are being themselves. Makes no sense!  Twitter is supposed to be informal, off the cuff remarks from the people you follow, not some corporate interpretation of what a celebrity would say if they were perfect.

Imagine if Ochocinco’s tweets were filtered? It loses everything that following a star is about. It’s supposed to be, 140 characters, spur of the moment connection with your fans. Ashton was a twitter leader, a veteran of the tweet. At the very least…..if you do turn over the management of your account, DON’T TELL US!!!
