Martin Lawrence Gets A New CBS Show – You Go Boy!!

Martin Lawrence returns to TV via a deal with CBS.  The refreshing part is that there is actually quite a story surrounding his character therefore it won’t solely be relying on Martin to be funny – which is the downfall of many series relying on comedians as leading men.

When the story and supporting actors are good – then so is the sitcom:  Seinfeld, Home Improvement, The Bernie Mac show, The Cosby Show.  When it’s bad, it’s really bad: The Tracy Morgan Show, Malcolm and Eddie, The Michael Richards Show…

THE PLOT

Martin is playing a widowed dad with two teenagers who in a bad economy loses his job as a construction worker and decides to be a police officer….all at age 46.  You have to admit, that you don’t hear a plot like that every day.

MARTIN’S TALENT DEAL WITH CBS

This is interesting….according to Deadline who first broke the story, CBS had a talent deal with Martin Lawrence.  Under such a deal, CBS had 2 top writers develop scripts specifically for Martin.  They weren’t feeling any of them, and came across this “widowed, wannabe cop, single father” script written by Mike Lisbe and Nate Regar, (who are also the producers of $#*! My Dad Says”. The suits at CBS thought it was a good match for Lawrence and Voila’ Martin is paid.

Now how do I get a talent deal.
