James Spader Leaves the Office after One Year, Dwight Schrute Gets a Spin-Off
James Spader’s is done. His contract was actually only for one year, and so he’s decided that was enough. Spader’s character, CEO Robert California was brought in to fill gaps after Steve Carell left the show. According to the executive producer Paul Liberstein, that was always the plan,
“James always wanted this to be a one-year arc, and he now leaves us having created one of the most enigmatic and dynamic characters in television, He’s been a great friend to me and the show, helping us successfully transition into the post-Michael Scott years, and I’m grateful for that.”
MORE TO LEAVE….
Mindy Kaling who is the shows co-executive producer and plays Kelly Kapoor just got the thumbs up on a comedy that she’s written for Fox. NBC passed on it, and Fox thought the show about a OB/GYN working in a small office would be a great addition.
Rainn Wilson’s character, Dwight Schrute is also getting his own show. The rumors have been confirmed so Rainn will definitely be leaving, but I’m sure we can expect some guest appearances.
IS THE OFFICE OVER??
Although Spader, Wilson and Kaling are out, the show must go on. “The Office” will still be around for a 9th Season. Believe it or not, “The Office” pulled in 5 million viewers last week – beating out 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and Up All Night. NBC is not ready to screw with that formula or give up those ratings on a Thursday night just yet.
The Dwight spinoff will air its pilot as an episode of The Office.
