Lauryn Hill Tries to Explain Why She Hasn’t Paid Her Taxes

Just a few days ago we found out that Ms. Hill wasn’t paying Uncle Sam. What we didn’t know is that she has her reason.  They might not be good reasons, but she has reason.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS…..

After the news broke, Lauryn Hill took to her tumblr account to post an explanation…

“For the past several years, I have remained what others would consider underground,” she wrote. “I did this in order to build a community of people, like-minded in their desire for freedom and the right to pursue their goals and lives without being manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex with a completely different agenda.”

WHAT THE HELL IS SHE TALKIN’ ABOUT????

Basically this is the reason she gave for disappearing.  She felt that the industry took advantage of her so she withdrew her and her family from the mainstream basically taking them away from the constant churn and demands of daily life which are both stressful and addicting.  The need to compete, be better, acquire material goods, basically the reason why I do just about anything.  (Hell I’m just being honest).

Hill feels that the rat race requires

“distortion and compromise as a means for maintaining it.”

She cut off everyone that she couldn’t trust.

BUT YOU JUST CAN’T DO WHAT EVA YOU WANT TO DO? IT DOESN’T WORK LIKE THAT!!

Hill insists that what she did was survival for her family, but she was told that that excuse was not going to fly.  She said,

“Obviously, the danger I faced was not accepted as reasonable grounds for deferring my tax payments, as authorities, who despite being told all of this, still chose to pursue action against me, as opposed to finding an alternative solution,”

She said that she only stopped paying taxes when she felt that she was in danger….

“My intention has always been to get this situation rectified. When I was working consistently without being affected by the interferences mentioned above, I filed and paid my taxes,” she con “This only stopped when it was necessary to withdraw from society, in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of myself and my family.”

Hill could do jail time and have to pay $300,000 plus penalties.  I understand what she is saying to a certain extent, but the same industry and media that she is running from, made her and that money she earned that she never paid taxes on.  No one is telling her to go and start rapping and singing, the government is saying, just pay your damn taxes sweetheart and then go back in you hole and hide.  She will face a judge on June 29^th.  A judge who can’t run and hide and earns a lot less then Ms. Hill.  Probably one that will have a hard time buying into her story.
