Dan Roundfield who died in Aruba saving his wife

A Former NBA All Star Dies While Saving His Wife in Aruba!

Dan Roundfield and his wife were in Aruba on a vacation near the Renaissance Resort.  They were

Swimming in a popular snorkeling location known as ‘Baby Beach” when the couple ventured past a protected reef area and waters began to get rough.  Local authorities described Tuesday’s weather as

a really bad day to go outside the reef.

A really bad day indeed.  Roundfield’s wife found herself in danger, that’s when Roundfield was able to rescue her and get over to some rocks where she was able to secure herself.  Once his wife was safe, Roundfield himself got swept away by the strong currents.

Although he was 6ft 8, Roundfield was no match for mother nature.  His body was recovered an hour and a half later trapped by rocks underwater.  What an awful, awful way to go.

The family is still trying to deal with the shocking news.  Roundfield’s sister in-law, Julia Roundfield says,

‘He was a real sweet guy, He really was a sweetheart.’

Roundfield played in the NBA for 11 seasons and was selected as an All Star in the 1980, 1981, and 1982 seasons.  All three years as an all-star were with the Atlanta Hawks.  Hawks vice president and former player Domonique Wilkins expressed his shock and grief,

‘Danny was the most honest and upfront person I knew, and I’m very stunned at hearing the news of his death,’  ‘Danny’s one of my closest friends and he was a tremendous influence on my NBA career, on and off the court.’He taught me how to be a professional and took me under his wing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, I will truly miss him.’

RIP Dan Roundfield.  You went out saving the life of your wife, it doesn’t get much more heroic then that.
