DC Comics Will Jump To A Justice League Movie – Lazy or Genius?

It’s no secret that DC Comics has always been second to Marvel (at least in my opinion), but on the big screen it’s just fact.  Part of this might be due to DC trying to “follow fast” instead of putting in the work and grinding like Marvel.

Now that Christopher Nolan’s done with Batman, DC’s only sort of sure thing is the highly anticipated “Man of Steel”.  I’m confident this will be a much better effort then the laughable Superman Returns but DC has a lot of work to do after the mess called “The Green Lantern”.  That simply sucked leaving very little hype for a Justice League flick.

Rumor has it that DC will be ignoring all of these facts and launching right into a Justice League movie, trying to ride the huge wave that Marvel created with “The Avengers”.  What they are overlooking are the effects that the Iron Man, Thor and Captain America movies played in the success of “The Avengers”.  They are also overlooking the reputation that Marvel has built in producing super hero films in general: Wolverine, X-men, Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, and The Fantastic Four.

DC is trying to go the opposite route, create a Justice League movie after The Man of Steel, and then use that movie to reboot Batman, reboot The Green Lantern and tune up superman in case The Man of Steel fails.

What about a slow road?

A more certain but slower road would be to Use Man of Steel to ignite the Justice League flame, in the same spirit at the first Iron Man. Then come out with a Flash movie in 2014. Then reboot Green Lantern in 2015. Then Wonder Woman in 2016. Then tie it up with the Batman reboot in 2017, and bring out the Justice League in 2018.  If done right, this would be the sure way to a highly anticipated Justice League Movie.

For now these are all rumors.  The only thing that is firm is that Will Beall is on board as writer and that Christopher Nolan wants no part of the project.

This could be a huge gamble for DC.  Who cares what movies precede Justice League if the effort is great and the script works? If it pays off, someone at DC will be a superhero, if not Marvel will continue to eat their lunch.
