What About Tom Cruise’s New Movie Jack Reacher caused Paramount to Postpone the Premiere?
In light of the shooting in Newtown, Ct, Paramount Pictures has decided it’s best to postpone a film premiere event they were planning on holding in Pittsburgh. They released a statement in light of the death of the 20 children and 6 adults killed,
“Due to the terrible tragedy in Newtown, Conn., and out of honor and respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken, we are postponing tomorrow’s Pittsburgh premiere of Jack Reacher, Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones.”
WHY? IT’S JUST A MOVIE PREMIERE RIGHT?
One of the issues is Jack Preacher’s opening sequence. The film has been criticized for its violence and the opening sequence features a mass murder. There is a sniper set up across the water of Pittsburgh’s baseball stadium and in the first moments of the film he begins to gun down at least five random people in front of the river promenade.
As the nation mourns, what is hands down, one of the most horrific crimes in modern day history; it would not have been a good idea to show people being gunned down in Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh.
Glad someone at Paramount was thinking.
Here is the Jack Reacher Trailer. Yes – it’s Violent.
