Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s Future on “The View” hangs in the Balance. Various Media Outlets Speculating Her Exit.
After it was announced that Joy Behar was leaving The View after 16 years, rumors of a show reboot begin to swirl around the internet. With that reboot, many thought another boot would be coming. One that would hit Elisabeth Hasselbeck, booting her right off the show.
A US weekly insider then reported,
The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing. People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed.
This rumor has since been squashed by a rep from The View itself. The rep stated,
Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long-term contract.”
The best part of releasing statements to the media is that you can say something, without really saying anything. Being a valued member and having a long term contract doesn’t mean tat she will be remaining for another season.
There is no doubt that Hasselback is polarizing. I think having counterpoints are healthy but 90% of the time she is just doing it to get a rise from her co-hosts. If she is challenged, she would just talk faster and higher pitched until she forced her point across. She would throw tantrums and always take a holy then thou stance on everything. I’m an avid fan of the show, but I have to admit, it gets old.
That being said, it sort of made for good TV. Sort of. Barbara Walters, the shows creator could also step down especially in the wake of her recent chicken pox crisis. What many might have noticed in her absence is that the show flowed smoother, topics transitioned faster and the mood was generally lighter.
Trust me, if we noticed, show did the producers. Just because Walters created the show, doesn’t give her a lifetime daily seat.
Don’t forget, this isn’t an election. Ratings matter. Picking someone that’s likable is more important than having opposing view points. Let’s just hope Whoopie and Sherri Shephard hang around for a few more seasons.
