Richard Griffiths of Harry Potter Dies at 65
We have a bit of sad news to end your week. The great British actor, Richard Griffiths passed away yesterday at the age of 65-years-old. Richard was well known for his work as the grumpy, “Uncle Vernon Dursley” in the insanely popular Harry Potter movies. Reports say that the actor died after suffering from complications due to heart surgery.
He might have played a grumpy character in the Harry Potter series, but those who worked with him described him as a kind and gentle mentor who loved storytelling. Daniel Radcliffe was extremely upset upon hearing the news of his passing, and had this to say about the actor…
Daniel said of Richard Griffiths,
“In August 2000, before official production had even begun on Potter, we filmed a shot outside the Dursleys’, which was my first-ever shot as Harry. I was nervous, and he made me feel at ease. Seven years later, we embarked on Esquus together. It was my first time doing a play, but, terrified as I was, his encouragement, tutelage and humor made it a joy. In fact, any room he walked into was made twice as funny and twice as clever just by his presence. I am proud to say I knew him.”
Richard was involved in a lot of other films besides the Harry Potter movies. His long film career includes, The French Lieutenant’s Women, Ghandi, Chariots of Fire, Lord of the Apes, Legend of Tarzan and the list just keeps on going.
It’s clear he was loved by everyone he knew. He is survived by his wife, Heather Gibson.
