Beyonce and Jay-Z’s Controversial Trip to Cuba

Jay-Z and Beyonce might be one of the most powerful couples in the entertainment world, but did they push their powers to far with a trip to Cuba? The couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary last week in Havana and were promptly met by screaming fans, and some unexpected criticism. Two Republican members of Congress apparently had nothing better to do and decided to look further into this trip to Cuba. They asked the U.S. Treasury Department for information on the type of license Jay-Z and Beyonce had for their trip. They specifically asked for, “information regarding what type of license that Beyonce and Jay-Z received, for what purpose and who approved such travel.”

A source close to the couple claims the trip was fully licensed by the U..S Treasury Department under the “people-to-people” cultural exchange program. Of course, traveling to Cuba is nearly impossible for most Americans due to the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba.

Sen. Marco Rubio also issued a statement on the trip and it doesn’t sound like he was too happy. Rubio said,

“U.S. law clearly bans tourism to Cuba by American citizens because it provides money to a cruel, repressive and murderous regime. Since their inception, the Obama Administration’s “people-to-people” cultural exchange programs have been abused by tourists who have no interest in the Cuban people’s freedom and either don’t realize or don’t care that they’re essentially funding the regime’s systematic trampling of people’s human rights.”

Beyonce and Jay-Z have declined to speak with reporters, but a state-run website CubaSi confirmed the trip as a tourist trip. And even with the strict rules on traveling to Cuba, thousands of Americans do it every year on religious, journalistic and even academic licenses. So, it appears Beyonce and Jay-Z had a proper license, but if they didn’t, they could be facing a big fine.

Oh, the whole thing is just silliness! The fact that we still can’t travel to Cuba is jut silly, but let’s not get into all of that. This is not a political blog! Let’s just all chill out and go listen to some Jay-Z.
