Eminem Admits Prescription Drug Addiction Almost Killed Him
The 40-year-old rapper was involved in a new documentary titled, “How to Make Money Selling Drugs.” And in the documentary he opened up about his horrible addiction to prescription drugs.
“People tried to tell me that I had a problem. I would say ’Get that f–king person outta here.‘ I’m not out there shooting heroin. I’m not f–king out there putting coke up my nose. I’m not smoking crack.”
Eminem explains in the very revealing interview that he was addicted to drugs, like, Valium and Xanax. It seems like he felt that he didn’t have a problem because his drug of choice wasn’t illegal.
However, he quickly learned that he needed to take his addiction seriously because it almost cost him his life,
“Had I got to the hospital about two hours later, I would have died. My organs were shutting down. My liver, kidneys, everything. They were gonna have to put me on dialysis. They didn’t think I was gonna make it. My bottom was gonna be death. I just couldn’t believe that anyone could be naturally happy or naturally function or be just enjoying life in general without being on something.”
After he was released from the hospital, he relapsed the next month. He admitted that he felt like he was going to die every single day, and he claims that he didn’t sleep for three weeks. Thankfully, his kids are what finally made him come around and beat the addiction.
[more…]He credits his children for playing a big role in his recovery, and he also had a very important message to share with everyone who is struggling with addiction, “So, I would say to anybody, ‘It does get better.’” he said.
I honestly think that is the best message/advice you can give to someone who is struggling with addiction, depression…etc. It does get better. It might not seem like there is a way “out” and it might seem like things are going to suck forever, but they’re not. There is always a way to change your life and there is always hope.
Look at what you guys have me doing! I feel like I am a motivational speaker or something. I’m the one that needs to be motivated! I am the one who wakes up every morning, eats a bowl of kid-approved cereal and then writes about people I don’t even know. DO YOU THINK I LIKE LOOKING MYSELF IN THE MIRROR? NO! THE ANSWER IS NO!
I’m sorry for yelling. I apologize. It gets better…I hope.
