Jimmy Kimmel In Serious Trouble After ‘China Skit’ Sparks Backlash
Jimmy Kimmel is in a lot of trouble and this time Kanye West has nothing to do with it. This time the trouble he is facing is far more serious.
Back in October, Jimmy Kimmel aired a segment called, “Kids’ Table” where he talks with kids about a variety of topics. On October 16, Kimmel asked the kids how the United States should repay its $1.3 trillion debt to China.
Obviously, since the goofballs in Washington can’t even seem to figure out this question, it’s ridiculous to think a bunch of six-year-old kids will know the answer, which is what makes the segment funny. However, when one kid answered the question by suggesting we kill everyone in China, the Chinese community got upset.
Shortly after the incident, ABC and Kimmel apologized for the comments,
[more…]“We offer our sincere apology. We would never purposefully broadcast anything to upset the Chinese community, Asian community, anyone of Chinese descent, or any community at large. Our objective is to entertain.”
They also decided to no longer film the “Kids’ Table” segments. But the apology wasn’t enough for some people and now Jimmy Kimmel is in some very hot water.
On Saturday, over 1,500 protestors gathered outside of the ABC studios in Los Angeles. And around one hundred protestors gathered outside of the ABC 15 studios in Phoenix. The crowds chanted, “Teach kids no hatred.” and “No fake apology.”
And last month, some protestors surrounded the ABC studios in New York City and held up signs that compared Kimmel to Hitler…
It doesn’t end there though. A petition requesting that ABC and Kimmel be held responsible for the comments made by the kid was posted to the White House’s website. It has received over 100,000 signatures, which means the White House will have to make an official statement about the incident.
Pretty crazy stuff, right? I can understand why some people are offended, but you also have to remember it was a little kid who said this. It’s not like Kimmel agreed with the kid and then started drawing up a plan to kill everyone in China. It was just a silly bit that no one should have taken seriously.
Comparing Kimmel to Hitler seems a bit extreme…
