Seth Rogen’s Moving Speech About Alzheimer’s Disease Is Something Everyone Should Watch (VIDEO)

When someone says, “Seth Rogen!” You automatically think, “Pot…penis..joke…pot…’dat laugh doe!” But the 31-year-old actor proved that he had a serious side yesterday during a very important senate hearing.

That’s right, Seth Rogen testified before the senate yesterday. As he mentioned in his speech, surprisingly he wasn’t there to discuss the legalization of marijuana. He went to Capitol Hill to promote Alzheimer’s research, and to challenge the government to find a cure for this terrible disease.

Like most people, Rogen admitted to thinking Alzheimer’s disease was just something really old people got. He didn’t realize how young the disease can attack or just how severe the disease can be.

But that all changed when his mother-in-law, Adele, was diagnosed with the disease when she was just 54-years-old. During the almost 7-minute long speech, Seth explained that it only took a few years before Adele was unable to remember her own family.

“After forgetting who she and her loved ones were. She forgot how to speak, feed herself, dress herself and go to the bathroom herself, all by the age of 60.”

On a personal note, I’d just like to share a story about my grandfather. I posted this story in a comment thread about this video yesterday, but I thought I would share it with you all today.

“I lived with my grandfather for five years while he slowly went downhill with the disease. It was difficult to watch. The toughest part was watching how upset/embarrassed he would get when it got to the point where he had to wear adult diapers.

He just looked so defeated. So done with life, and so different from the man I knew. The man that would dance every time he heard music. It didn’t matter what genre of music it was, if it had a good beat, his feet were moving.

I remember a few years before he passed away. That horrible Flo Rida song “Low” was taking over the world and murdering puppies and bunnies everywhere. My grandfather heard the song blaring in a gas station, and gave me that, “What the f–k is this?” look. He then smiled and started dancing right in front of the sliding door. He had everyone in the place laughing their ass off.

By the time he stopped dancing, the gas station was just full of asses crawling on the floor. It was magical. It’s also the only reason I still listen to that song every week.”

I miss him a lot, and I am glad to see the disease getting the attention it deserves.
