Angelina Jolie Reveals She Needs Another Surgery To Prevent Cancer

As most of you know, Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery last year to prevent  breast cancer. Doctors told the 38-year-old actress she had an 87 percent risk of getting breast cancer because she carries the BRCA1 gene.

The surgery went well, and she revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she’s very happy she had the surgery.

“I’m great! I’m very happy I made the decision. I was very fortunate to have great doctors and very, very fortunate to have a good recovery and have a project like Unbroken to have something to be really focused on, to be getting healthy for, and to be able to just get right back to work.”

That’s certainly great news to hear, but Angelina also revealed she isn’t out of the woods just yet. She still needs to have another surgery performed on her to prevent ovarian cancer, which she also has an elevated risk of getting.

“There’s still another surgery to have, which I haven’t yet. I’ll, you know, I’ll get advice from all these wonderful people who I’ve been talking to, to get through that next stage.”

Last year, Angelina explained the decision to tackle the double mastectomy first. She wrote the following in the New York Times

“I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex.”

We certainly wish her the best! It’s a good thing she’s taking care of things now, and not waiting until it is too late. We’re sure the double mastectomy was scary, but we have to imagine it was less frightening than being diagnosed with breast cancer.
