Songwriter Slams American Idol, Says It’s No Longer About Finding Talent
Now that American Idol has announced next season will be its final season, there have been several people coming out saying things like, “Yes, finally!” or maybe even, “What? That show is still on?”
And I’ll admit, those comments sting a little bit. I am still a big fan of the show, especially when you compare it to The Voice, so when someone slams the show, it feels like they are hurting a family member. And the latest person to insult the American Idol family was songwriter Diane Warren, who has had several of her songs featured on the show in the past.
While walking the red carpet at an event in Los Angeles on Saturday, Warren slammed the show, asking if anyone still watches it.
Does anybody watch it? Seriously? I don’t. I don’t think people watch it. I feel bad. It wasn’t about the talent after awhile. It was great when it started.
…I watch it? Do I count? Warren’s attack on Idol didn’t end there. She explained how the judges have used the show to revitalize their careers, but that doesn’t really make any sense. I thought no one was watching? How would it help their careers? Hm.
People are fatigued. When the judges go on there, they are trying to revitalize their careers if they’re not doing well. But it shouldn’t be about that. Then someone wins and we go, ‘Who is this artist?’ And then they’re gone. Record companies don’t know what to do with them.
Warren also criticized The Voice, saying the show hasn’t produced a true star yet. At least she is consistent with her hate.
