WWE Releases Alberto Del Rio, Del Rio Holds Press Conference And Explains The Real Reason He Decided to Leave and An Update on His Girlfriend Paige.
Alberto Del Rio was making another run at a championship before he was halted dead in his tracks. After appearing suspiciously larger during his comeback matches in the past year, the WWE investigated and on August 17th, the WWE announced that Del Rio and his wrestling girlfriend Paige were suspended for policy violations.
Although “juicing” was suspected, this probably was not the reason for the suspicious. However, we weren’t the only ones who thought he looked jacked for a 39 year old. Ryan Glasspiegel at Sportrapport thought the same thing.
If Alberto Del Rio had this profound physical transformation as a 38-year-old MLB player, there would, uh, be some questions.

“Look in the shape he’s in. That’s what a champion looks like” — JBL on Alberto Del Rio who, um, magically? got RIPPED at age 38.

Although it’s not clear exactly why the WWE suspended him, as they typically do not publicly reveal the reason, besides looking larger, there was also a lot of backstage drama. Del Rio was caught between Triple H and Vince McMahon. They didn’t see eye to eye on his talents and value to the organization. Triple H thought that Alberto put his personal life first by dating Paige. When the draft came Del Rio went to Smackdown and his girlfriend was sent over to RAW. This sent two messages:
1. Triple H really doesn’t like Del Rio and
2. Triple H actually had some power.
THE WWE SENDS OUT OFFICIAL NOTICE OF DEL RIO’S RELEASE
The WWE sent out the announcement yesterday morning.
“Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.”
Besides a tweet, they sent out an over-sized picture of Del Rio with no write up on their website. For a man who had a pretty lengthy career with the organization, I expected a little bio or career highlight and a Thank You. Nope. This is all he got.
That’s it. A one sentence send off, flanked with a Jolly Rancher ad on one side and a KFC Crunch, Crunch Extra Crispy Banner.
This officially ended his 2nd career with the WWE. His first one he was actually fired for unprofessional conduct after a WWE employee made a racist joke and Del Rio confronted them.
