Recent College Graduate Left Paralyzed (Near Death) After Routine Visit To The Chiropractor

If you have an appointment scheduled at the local chiropractor’s office, you might want to reschedule. Georgia Southern University graduate Caitlin Jensen visited a chiropractor for “an adjustment to her neck” back on June 16, and tragically, the appointment went terribly wrong.

After the adjustment, Jensen immediately became ill and was hospitalized. Doctors discovered she had four dissected arteries within her neck.

And from there, things got progressively worse.

This damage led to cardiac arrest and a stroke, as well as a loss of pulse for over 10 minutes after which she was revived. Once the doctors were able to stabilize Caitlin, she was rushed to surgery. Doctors were able to repair some tears and placed a stent in one artery.

The surgeons who worked to save her life all agree that this happened as a direct result of neck manipulation.

The surgeon … that saved her life, and every other doctor that has looked at her, have all agreed that this happened as a direct result of the neck manipulation. The chiropractor called 911 and then called me and told me that she was ‘having a reaction to the treatment.’

One month after the incident, Jensen remains in the neurological ICU at Memorial Hospital. She’s in critical condition, and while she is conscious, she can only respond to verbal commands by blinking her eyes and wiggling her toes on her left feet. The GoFundMe page that was set up to help pay medical bills also states that Jensen suffered traumatic brain injury, likely due to having no pulse for ten minutes.

Caitlin graduated from Georgia Southern University in May with a degree in chemistry and biology, and looked forward to her future, the GoFundMe states. As of Wednesday morning, the page has raised over $38,000 of a $100,000 goal for medical bills.

The chiropractor’s name has not been revealed, but a separate chiropractor claims this situation is incredibly rare, and that the chiropractor who worked on Jensen likely didn’t actually cause the problem, he simply unknowingly exacerbated it. Although, we must remember this is a fellow chiropractor trying to defend his entire industry.

Artery dissections like the young woman’s often produce symptoms of headache and neck pain, which then drive people to a doctor’s office. Once they’ve gone to the medical doctor or chiropractor the likelihood is, unfortunately, a stroke will occur. Anything from someone tilting their head back in a hair salon or horseplay could tigger the injuries for someone with the condition.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family. And heck, even the chiropractor. We’re sure they feel terrible.
