Taylor Swift Surprises Her Loyal Fans By Announcing New Album At The MTV VMAs
Taylor Swift knows how to create buzz. The Grammy winner had a fairly big night at the MTV VMAs on Sunday, August 28th.
She won the Video of the Year award for her 10-minute music video for All Too Well, featuring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien. And honestly, it was probably deserved. A lot of work went into that video and it was talk of the town for months. Although, I feel like she cheated a bit because it was more like a short film than a music video, but hey… awards don’t matter, Kanye!
Anyway, while accepting the award, she thanked her fans for making all this possible, and then said she wanted to give something back to them.
We wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it weren’t for you, the fans. And I had sort of made up my mind that if you were going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand-new album comes out Oct. 21. And I will tell you more at midnight.
And she really meant “midnight,” because the upcoming album is actually called Midnights. And honestly, the concept sounds pretty dope. I can’t lie.
She tweeted:
Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight.
The best songs tell a story, and Swift (love her or hate her) is a great storyteller, so the fact that this album has a storytelling premise is pretty neat.
She has not yet named the 10 tracks from the album, but we’re sure fans will speculate for the next month. Swift’s last studio album was Evermore back in 2020. It charted at number one, as have all her albums, except her debut album, which landed at number five.
We’ll see if she can keep the magic going.
