Christina Applegate Reveals She Has Gained 40 Pounds And Can’t Walk Without A Cane Amid MS Battle
50-year-old actress and all-around solid person Christina Applegate revealed one year ago that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It was a shock to everyone, but she was determined to not let it knock her down.
She knew she wanted to finish filming the third and final season of her hit Netflix show, Dead to Me, so that’s exactly what she did. The final season is set to be released on November 17, and it will be the first time the world sees the “new” Applegate.
This is the first time anyone’s going to see me the way I am. I put on 40 pounds; I can’t walk without a cane. I want people to know that I am very aware of all of that.
When she was first diagnosed last summer, production on the show shut down for five months while she focused on treatment.
There was the sense of, ‘Well, let’s get her some medicine so she can get better,’ And there is no better. But it was good for me. I needed to process my loss of my life, my loss of that part of me. So I needed that time.
There was conversation about stopping the show completely, never giving fans the third and final season, but Applegate would not let that happen.
The powers that be were like, ‘Let’s just stop. We don’t need to finish it. Let’s put a few episodes together.’ I said, ‘No. We’re going to do it, but we’re going to do it on my terms.’
And that’s exactly what they did. Applegate admitted filming the rest of the season was the hardest thing she’s ever done, but she’s super glad she did it.
As mentioned above, the final season of ‘Dead to Me’ airs November 17, and it should be pretty damn special.
