Jay Leno May Need Major Surgery After Suffering Severe Burns To His Face In Car Fire
Jay Leno is extremely lucky to be alive today after nearly burning to death inside a garage housing his beloved collection of cars.
The 72-year-old comedian/talk show host spoke to TMZ from his hospital room at the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles. According to Jay, he was working on a 1907 White Steam Car when a fuel leak and a spark triggered an explosion.
Leno was set on fire, but thankfully his friend Dave was there and jumped on top of him to smother the flames.
The freak accident happened on Sunday, causing Leno to miss an appearance in Las Vegas.
Financial Brand Forum 2022 attendees were notified of his absence in an email that read, ‘His family was not able to provide us very many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that is preventing Jay from traveling.’
The flames reportedly burned the left side of Leno’s face, but did not burn his eye or ear. Sources say he may need skin grafts to treat the burns on his face.
He’s expected to remain in the hospital for at least 5-10 days, but it could end up being longer than that.
Leno seems optimistic though. He believes he’ll only need two weeks to get back on his feet, but we’re sure doctors will advise him to take it easy for a bit longer than that. Maybe he should just break for the holidays now and get back out there in January.
In any event, we hope he makes a full recovery!
