‘General Hospital’ Actress Sonya Eddy Dies At 55 Following Complications From Routine Surgery
Some sad news to report this week. General Hospital star Sonya Eddy has passed away at the young age of 55. Her death was confirmed by her close friend and fellow actress, Octavia Spencer.
She went on her Instagram account to share the news with her followers, writing, “My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her.”

According to Sonya’s producing partner, Tyler Ford, the actress had a scheduled surgery planned for December 9. It was not an emergency surgery.
She was released from the hospital two days later, but then started to feel ill again a couple days later and returned to the hospital on the 15th, but unfortunately it was too late at that point.
Doctors say she had a serious infection that was uncontainable. She was placed on life support and then passed away on Monday, December 19th.
Sonya was truly a staple of ‘General Hospital’ starting in 2006, appearing in 543 episodes of the long-running soap opera. Fans remember her playing Epiphany Johnson, a no-nonsense head nurse that was the mother of the late Stan Johnson, who got wrapped up in the mob.
Of course, she guest starred in lots of other shows as well, including The Drew Carey Show, Reba, CSI, Glee, Castle and more recently, Fresh Off The Boat.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family.
