The Best Super Bowl Commercial Goes To *CHECKS NOTES* TUBI? Watch The Clever Commercial!
Most people don’t wake up thinking about the streaming service, Tubi. It’s one of many options, right? One of those apps you download on your Roku because some old movie happens to be on it.
Well, Tubi dropped some $$$ on a Super Bowl commercial spot on Sunday (Feb 12) and they got their money’s worth.
In their 15-second spot, they made it look as if the Super Bowl had come back from commercial break with Fox Sports announcers Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen appearing on screen.
But suddenly, it seemed like the screen had been taken over by someone scrolling over to the Tubi TV app and searching through the streaming services’ library for something to watch, landing on Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
So households all over the country thought someone was sitting on the remote and they were missing the game, which is pretty damn clever.
It soon became clear it was just a commercial, but we have to imagine it sparked more than a few laughs. One person tweeted, “Tubi got some people yelling at people on the couch for sure.”
Gregh Hahn, co-founder at Mischief, who produced the ad in partnership with Tubi, had this to say about the idea:
Nicole [chief marketing officer at Tubi] and the Tubi team came to us with a unique brief for the streaming sector: Reveal Tubi to the world, personality-first. Not title-first. These spots reveal a personality we’ve had fun creating over the past few months: quirky, playful and a bit unexpected. Tubi is poised to be the troublemaker of the streaming world.
Congrats on a successful commercial.
