Teen Who Just Graduated High School Is Presumed Dead After Jumping Off Cruise Ship In The Bahamas
A pretty terrifying video is making the rounds on social media this week. The short clip shows 18-year-old Cameron Robbins swimming in the ocean as a group of people on a cruise ship encourage him to grab the life preserver that had been thrown to him.
Unfortunately, the life preserver was a good distance away and the teen couldn’t grab it in time. As the ship continued to move, people lost sight of him.
Since he went missing, a multi-day search was undertaken by both Bahamian authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard — but Robbins was never found, and the search has now been called off after several unsuccessful days of scouring the area for any sign of him.
According to TMZ, Robbins did not fall off the ship. They say he jumped off, and it may have been a dare from his friends, as some people were heard encouraging him to do it.
Robbins had just graduated from a high school in Louisiana. He was staying at the Atlantis Paradise resort in the Bahamas with some friends from high school.
The group landed in the Bahamas on Wednesday and later went on a pirate-themed sunset cruise with a company called Blackbeard’s Revenge. According to a news release, Royal Bahamas Defence Force personnel contacted Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders on Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. and reported that a man fell off the Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise ship and entered the water.
Such a sad story. So young. We’re sure he thought it’d be simple to jump back on the ship, but they move faster than you think, and swimming in the open sea waters is much different than swimming in a pool.
His family sent out a statement, thanking everyone who searched for Robbins…
In this time of grief, we thank our family, friends, and well-wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss.
Our thoughts go out to the family.
