Zac Efron Says He’d Be Honored To Play Matthew Perry In Potential Biopic
The death of ‘Friends‘ star Matthew Perry last month shocked the world. We’re all still waiting to hear the official cause of death, but in the meantime, some people have started casting a potential biopic featuring the late actor.
And the top choice to play him? Zac Efron, which might sound like a strange choice, but you’ll remember Efron actually played a younger version of Perry’s character in the comedy film, 17 Again.
They apparently bonded during filming and Perry’s friend, Athenna Crosby, told the media that Perry had expressed interest in having Efron play him in a movie about his life.
He had worked with Zac Efron in the past on a movie, and he said that he wanted Zac Efron to play him as a younger version [of himself] and that he was gonna ask him soon to do that. He was just looking forward to sharing more about his story and his recovery from addiction, and really championing that cause to help more people, so he was so optimistic.
Well, that quote floated its way to Efron, and during the premiere of his new movie ‘The Iron Claw‘ he admitted he was honored to hear Perry was thinking about asking him.
I’m honored to hear he was thinking of me to play him. We’ll see. I’d be honored to do it. He was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together. I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming ’17 Again’ it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there.
Hey, he wouldn’t be my first choice to play Perry, but if he was Perry’s first choice, then that’s all that matters. Hopefully the Hollywood peeps can make it happen. I’d be interested in hearing more about his story.
