Taraji P. Henson Fired Her Entire Team Because She Felt Like They Were “Slacking” After Her Success On ‘Empire’
If you didn’t know by now, Taraji P. Henson believes in herself fully. No one fights harder for her than herself, and sometimes, that’s a problem.
During a recent interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, the 53-year-old actress revealed she fired her entire staff after they failed to capitalize on her ‘Empire’ success when the show came to an end in 2020.
Everybody had to f—kin’ go. Where is my deal? Where’s my commercial? Cookie was at the top of the fashion game. Where is my endorsement? What did you have set up for after this? That’s why you all haven’t seen me in so long. They had nothing set up.
Obviously stars have teams of people to manage their life and help land them contracts, but at the same time, I’m not sure she can say the reason she hasn’t starred in anything in three years is because they had “nothing set up.”
She can set things up on her own as well. She has to take some of the blame there.
Later in the interview, she seemed to hint that her team wanted her to wait out for another show like Empire, but that just wasn’t happening, and they failed to get other things cooking.
You’ll remember, Henson recently got emotional while speaking to Gayle King on SiriusXM. She talked about the unfair treatment of black women in the entertainment industry.
I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do [and] getting paid a fraction of the cost. I’m tired of hearing my sisters saying the same thing over and over. I’m only human and it seems every time I do something and I break another glass ceiling, when it’s time to renegotiate I’m at the bottom again like I never did what I just did.
