Usher Walks Back Comments Claiming He Was Beyonce’s “Nanny” When They Were Younger
Last year, Usher went on some UK radio show and randomly shared a “fun fact” about how when he was 14/15, he was tasked with babysitting Beyonce and her band at the time, who were called The Dolls.
Beyonce would have been around 11 at the time. He said he found his way into being “the girls’ chaperone, nanny or something like that.”
But during a more recent interview with Shannon Sharpe on ‘Club Shay Shay‘ the 45-year-old singer revealed he may have went too far with the nanny comment. Instead, he says he was more of a chaperone for a short period of time.
Daryl Simmons, he had a group by the name of The Dolls, and they came to Atlanta for the first time. This is before Destiny’s Child became Destiny’s Child. I think I looked over them while they [were] doing something in the house; I had to watch over ’cause I was like the, you know, the authority ’cause I guess I was the teenager at the time. [I was] making certain that they didn’t, you know, get in no trouble in the house at the time.
So he wasn’t in the kitchen making them crustless PB&J sandwiches. Don’t get it twisted! Usher ain’t no manny! Not that there is anything wrong with that!
Sharpe asked Usher if he had feeling back then that Beyonce would turn into a superstar, and this was Usher’s response…
She had a talent and also to a brilliance and a brightness that was much different. [It’s] really great for my sister, to see that she’s done so amazing and continue to thrive and just get bigger and better.
More power to them both!
