Tracy Morgan Cries In First TV Interview Since Being Injured In Crash That Killed His Friend (VIDEO)
Last week we told you that Tracy Morgan had settled with Walmart over the fatal crash that killed his good friend, James “Jimmy Mack” McNair. And now, one year after the terrible accident, the 46-year-old comedian is giving his first TV interview.
Morgan spoke with the “Today” show with his attorney Benedict Morelli. The former 30 Rock star held his cane in his right hand, and told Matt Lauer, “I can’t believe I’m here. I can’t believe I’m in front of you.” He also admitted to being in a dark place ever since the accident, but said his family and friends have been working to keep his spirits up.
But when Lauer asked him about the crash, Morgan started to cry, admitting he doesn’t remember the actual accident. The only thing he remembers is waking up from a coma two weeks later. He then talked about how painful it was learning that his good friend had died in the accident.
“He was a loving man and he was a warm man. He was a good man. It’s just hard for me to see that he’s gone. The last time I saw Jimmy, Jimmy wrote a joke for me. It was a Donald Sterling joke. I asked him to come with me the day before and he said, ‘I’ll be there. I love you. Peace.’ We went there and we did the show and I did the joke and everybody got applause breaks. And I looked to the side and I see Jimmy standing there laughing, and that was the last time I seen him alive.”He also revealed that once he arrived home from the hospital, he would just watch the accident on YouTube every single day. And then one day, “I came across his funeral on YouTube. And I just lost it for about a week.”
But he is slowly getting better, and he’s getting ready to make everyone laugh again.
My goal is just to heal and get better because I’m not 100 percent yet. I’ll get back to making you laugh, I promise you.
