Nicki Minaj Disappoints NYE Crowd By Refusing To Sing Hit Track ‘Starships’
Nicki Minaj just released her fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2, on December 8, 2023, so she has plenty of new tracks to sing at her upcoming concerts.
But for her special New Year’s Eve performance, the crowd wanted some of her old tracks sprinkled in. She was performing at E11EVEN in Miami on Sunday night when the speakers started playing her hit 2012 song, Starships.
Seconds later, she instructs the backing track to stop, much to the disappointment of her fans.
Hold on. Psych, psych, psych, psych. I don’t perform that song no more, y’all. I don’t like it … what y’all want me to do? Stupid song.
There were a lot of groans of frustration coming out of the crowd, but thankfully their disappointment didn’t last long as Nicki delighted them with another old track, Super Bass.
Back in 2020, Nicki trashed her ‘Starships’ song, telling Pollstar Live that she hated it and can’t fathom how or why she came up with the lyrics in the first place. She also talked about hating ‘Anaconda‘ and ‘Your Love‘
So if you have tickets to one of her upcoming shows, don’t expect to hear any of those three tracks.
