The President Just Signed A Bill That Will Ban TikTok If It Remains Under Chinese Control
By Christmas, TikTok could be banned in the United States. President Biden just signed a bill banning TikTok, unless it’s sold to a U.S.-based company.
The video sharing app has just nine months to make a deal happen, but TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, says they plan to fight like hell in court to reverse this decision.
The businessman says he and his partners are going to challenge this new law — and is confident TikTok will win before a judge, stating the Constitution is on the company’s side. Chew and co. say they’re going to cite First Amendment rights in defending their position. Chew then blasted the politicians … saying a TikTok ban has always been their goal, and says them trying to force this down Americans’ throats is counter to what the people want.
The bill banning TikTok passed in congress with ease: 352 yes votes and just 65 no votes.
Lawmakers have cited privacy concerns over TikTok for years now. They believe the Chinese government is using the app to spy on the United States, as well as other countries. It’s already been banned from Government-issused phones in the U.S., U.K., Canada and New Zealand.
The app is banned entirely in India, and TikTok did not put up much of a fight there, but the situation is different here in the states…
In India, TikTok decided not to go to court, but the U.S. is a bigger revenue market for them. Also, the First Amendment in America is fairly strong, so it’s not going to be as easy for the U.S. to do this as it was for India.
We’ll see how this plays out, but in the meantime, if you’re making a living off TikTok, it might be time to switch your audience to a new platform… ASAP!
